Winning writing contests is great – but if you have to lose, it’s great to lose to a writer you admire.
Such is the case with the annual John Lent chapbook award from Kalamalka Press, which was won by Nicholas Paxanthos last week. I had the chance to meet and write alongside Nicholas when I was at Queen’s, and our work appeared in 529: An Anthology, produced by Stuart Ross. That was my first encounter with Nicholas’s poetry, and I’ve been loving it ever since. Nicholas’s work has been published in Lake Effect 5, This Magazine, and elsewhere. This newest chapbook, Wearing Your Pants, will hopefully be released later this year.
If you enjoy quirky, intelligent and entertaining poetry, then I highly suggest you check out Nicholas’s work. I’ve posted two samples of his work below:
Congratulations, Nicholas! Looking forward to more great things in the future!
